Carya laciniosa, Kingnut, Height 60-70cm, 5-liter pot.

The Carya laciniosa, better known as the king nut, is an impressive nut tree native to North America. This special tree is known for its large edible nuts, graceful growth habit, and striking bark that hangs loose from the trunk in long strips in later years. The king nut forms a broad, semi-open crown with slightly drooping branches and eventually develops into a characterful tree with a natural appearance. In addition to its decorative value, the tree produces sweet edible nuts reminiscent of pecans. Why choose Carya laciniosa? • Large edible nuts with a sweet taste• Striking ornamental bark structure• Beautiful golden-yellow autumn coloration• Very hardy• Suitable as a solitary tree• Strong and durable tree species Contents of this product • 1 x Carya laciniosa – King Nut• Pot size: 5 liters• Height at delivery: approx. 60-70 cm (indicative) The tree is delivered in a nursery pot and continues to grow into a large nut tree after planting. The height at delivery may vary slightly depending on the season and growth phase. About Carya laciniosa Carya laciniosa grows into a large tree that can eventually reach a height of approximately 20 to 25 meters. The crown grows in a broad pyramidal shape with a semi-open structure. The compound leaf consists of multiple elongated leaflets with a fresh green color. In autumn, the leaves turn a striking golden yellow before the tree sheds them. A distinctive feature of older trees is the decorative bark that peels off the trunk in long vertical strips. The tree produces edible nuts that hang in clusters. The nuts usually ripen in October and November. When the outer shell splits open, the nuts are ready for harvest. The taste is sweet and aromatic, comparable to pecans. Carya laciniosa is partially self-pollinating, which means that this species bears fruit individually, but the yield is noticeably better if it is planted nearby or together with a second specimen. Care Carya laciniosa grows best in a sunny location. A nutritious, moisture-retentive, yet well-draining soil is most appreciated. When planting, compost or organic fertilizer can be added to improve soil structure. Young trees, in particular, require extra water during dry periods. Due to its eventual size, sufficient space around the tree is important. Pruning Pruning is usually only necessary to a limited extent. If necessary, unwanted or damaged branches can be removed in early spring. The natural growth habit is best showcased when the tree is largely allowed to grow freely. Winter care The kingnut is very hardy and tolerates temperatures well below -20°C. The tree is well-suited to the Dutch climate and generally does not require extra winter protection. Use of the nuts The nuts can be eaten fresh, but are also suitable for roasting or incorporating into desserts and pastries. Due to their sweet taste, they are regularly used in desserts or as a garnish. For lovers of unusual nut trees Carya laciniosa is a beautiful choice for lovers of unusual nut trees. The tree combines well with other nut trees or fruit varieties for a varied edible garden or orchard.
