The keys have a chip inside. The chip included with this product is a 48 chip. This ignition switch comes with 2 transponder keys. The chip must match the vehicle's engine computer in order to start the car. Professional programming by a qualified locksmith is required to synchronize the key with the vehicle's system. To program the key: - If you have the original key, a locksmith can duplicate the key and program the chip to match the original. - If you do not have the original key, a locksmith can use a programming device connected to the OBD2 port to program the vehicle to accept the new key.
