Rudbeckia Goldstrum. Very Colourful.
RUDBECKIA Goldstrum
\nNamed by Linnaeus in remembrance of his teacher Olaf Rudbeck this is a compact, ultra-reliable, easy to grow perennial, with a long flowering period.
\nOriginating from the prairies of North America and sometimes known as Coneflower although this name is more commonly associated with Echinacea.
\nAlso occasionally referred to as Black Eyed Susan but again this name is more often applied to Thunbergia.
\nLarge, bright, golden yellow, daisy like flowers almost 5 inches across with a prominent black or dark brown central eye or cone ensure Rudbeckia Goldstrum is noticed where ever it is grown.
\nFlowering from July until well into October, Goldstrum thrive in full sun or partial shade, are not fussy about soil type (not waterlogged) and once established will tolerate drought.
\nThe classic English border flower, bright, breezy, very colourful and tough as old boots Rudbeckia Goldstum gently leads the garden from summer through to autumn.
\nEasy to maintain, neat and tidy in the border, not tall enough to need staking and not invasive enough to need frequent division, many a gardener’s dream.
\nVery attractive to butterflies and bees the long-lasting blooms of Rudbeckia also make superb cut flowers.
\nDeadhead the early flowers as necessary but as the season draws to a close leave a few seed-heads for winter interest.
\nPrune back to just above ground level in late winter and lift and divide large or overgrown clumps in spring.
